Brady Quinn got his first NFL win as a starter almost single-handedly. Quinn broke his right index finger during the first half of Monday night's game against the Buffalo Bills, but Cleveland's new starting quarterback stayed in and led the Browns to a 29-27 victory. Despite the injury, Quinn will try to play Sunday when the Browns host the Houston Texans.

Cowboys' Felix Jones done for season (AP)

Cowboys rookie running back Felix Jones is done for the season. The team said Thursday that Jones, one of Dallas' two first-round draft picks, will be placed on injured reserve because of a big left toe injury sustained while doing rehabilitation after hurting his left hamstring Oct. 12. Shock re-sign Laimbeer to 2-year deal (AP)

Coach Bill Laimbeer has been re-signed to a two-year contract by the WNBA champion Detroit Shock. The team is not releasing terms of the deal announced Thursday. The two-time NBA champion as a member of the Detroit Pistons guided the Shock this summer to their third title during his seven years as coach.

Yankees' Mussina announces retirement (AP)

FoxSports.com reported Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2008, that Mussina intends to retire and will make the move official this week. In the report, the Web site cited unidentified major league sources.

New York Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina announced his retirement Thursday even as he comes off his first 20-win season. Mussina, who turns 40 next month, was 270-153 with a 3.68 ERA in 18 seasons in the majors. He becomes the first pitcher to retire after a 20-win season since Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax in 1966.

Agent: Edge wants out; Cards won't do it (AP)

Benched running back Edgerrin James wants the Arizona Cardinals to release him, his agent said Wednesday night. Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said the team declined to even consider such a move. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he would continue to talk to the Cardinals to try to persuade them to grant James his release.

The Cincinnati Bengals say Chad Ocho Cinco, the wide receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson, will be deactivated for Thursday night's game with the Pittsburgh Steelers for violating a team rule. The Bengals did not specify the violation and said there would be no further comment until after the game.

Phillies 2B Utley may be out until May (AP)

Three-time All-Star Chase Utley, who anchored the middle of the lineup for the World Series champion Phillies, will have surgery and may not be ready for the start of the 2009 regular season. Utley will have surgery next week to repair any bone or cartilage damage he may have in his right hip. He will be able to begin baseball activity in three to four months.
